Today I'm featuring a fun and fearless twoscore+ woman from Scotland! She loves to play with color and has the most fabled pixie cut hairstyle. Let'south find out more about her!

Hi Samantha, can you tell us a lilliputian scrap more about yourself?

Hi there! My proper noun is Samantha and I was born in the North e of England. I moved to Stirling equally a student and have spent all of my adult life living in Scotland. Information technology is a beautiful part of the world.

I am a married woman and the female parent of three good for you children (who are growing up too fast). I am also step-mum to an amazing immature woman.

I work (function time) as a Biomedical Scientist in a Chemical science laboratory and spend all day in a full length Howie coat. Not very glamorous on the outside, simply I am dressed exactly how I want underneath…and that feels practiced!

The residuum of my week is spent doing all of the normal things wives and mothers practice, besides as a little blogging. Apart from working on my web log, I love reading, films, fine art, knitting/crochet/sewing and walking my scruffy dog, Jake.

In instance you thought my knitted and paw-sewn creations are featured on my web log, permit me clear that up…they are non! Mostly because they are pretty rubbish, my skills leave a lot to be desired. Withal, I do make a mean halloween costume, consummate with scary makeup!

Every bit a point of reference which age group exercise yous vest to or peradventure you lot are willing to share your age?

I am 42, and can honestly say that age is getting more than irrelevant every bit I become older. I know "erstwhile ladies" in their xx's and young, vibrant women in their 70'south.

Ageing may mean that my trunk is starting to fall to bits and, things are definitely sliding southward!

Merely overall? The old cliche is true….Age is just a number!

Anyway, getting older is a privilege that many people don't savor.

Can you tell us a fleck more virtually your blog Fake Fabulous and why y'all created it?

I created Fake Fabulous because I have a passion for writing and I honey the artistry (and scientific discipline) of clothes and fashion. Colours, textures and shapes have always interested me.

Blogging is a perfect mode to talk most this beloved of wearing apparel and appoint with people who share my passion. Creating a blog is a smashing manner to connect with agreeing women. I would highly recommend it!

How would you draw your ain personal mode?

I think my personal style is quite difficult to pivot downward! I can be bright and assuming one minute, or muted and soft the next.

I definitely wearing apparel to suit my mood. And, moods can modify, can't they?

One 24-hour interval, a gent'due south shirt and chunky boots. The next, a vintage dress and heels. If I had to describe my style in three words, I would say:

Colourful, eclectic and fun!

Where practice you live and how does that influence your style?

I live in Scotland, and it has an enormous touch on on my style choices. A single solar day in Scotland can contain all four seasons. This is honestly true.

One minute the sun is spitting the sky (and your jacket is under your arm) the next, at that place are hail stones and you are running for cover!

I always dress with warmth and comfort in mind.

The only time I compromise on comfort is for a beautiful pair of shoes. I NEVER compromise on being warm. Secret layering is my secret weapon.

Oh, and I e'er accept an umbrella with me. If you have ever been to Scotland, you will understand why!

What inspires your outfit choices the most?

My outfit choices are inspired by: 80% mood and 20% weather. I always dress to suit the image I want to portray, or the mood I feel, on a detail day. Merely farthermost weather volition curtail my plans.

In that example, I comport a pair of shoes with me to change into when I go far at my destination. The elements can't beat my personal fashion completely.

Do y'all take things similar color profiling or torso type into account when you dress?

I exercise, sometimes. I know what colours and shapes suit me and what don't.

I know that the "rules" tell me avert sure style and colours. Merely, if I am honest, I sometimes just wear them anyway!

As long as I feel skilful, I don't intendance (likewise much) almost an item not existence 'my colour' of the 'perfect shape' for my torso type.

I am brusk-waisted and oftentimes break the short-waisted rules. I am a warm fall colouring, and often wearable the "wrong" colours. Just because I want to, and I can! Sometimes, I know I need to walk a bit taller (or wear a brighter lipstick) in order to pull off these forbidden shapes and colours.

But, I am a firm believer in the fact that confidence is lxxx% of mode. If you believe in yourself then you will look great, regardless of the rule book.

Has your style changed at all subsequently turning twoscore?

Yes, information technology certainly has! Up until the age of xxx I had very little body confidence.

In fact, I had very piffling confidence at all.

I used to hate my legs and never showed them off. I used to observe mistake with my imperfect body. Wishing I was taller, bustier, curvier, prettier…anything merely "me".

With age has come up an appreciation of my body. It is a brilliant vessel that has done some astonishing things.

I take finally beaten my demons and appreciate what I take. I at present realise that I volition never be every bit young every bit I am today, and so I intend to savour life!

Practice y'all believe in dressing 'age accordingly' and what does it mean to you?

I practice believe in dressing appropriately, but it has zip to do with age! Equally long as I am dressed to adapt the occasion, then I wear what I want.

Life is (as the saying goes) besides short to be worrying that nosotros are "besides old" for those leather trousers.

Or, if that jumpsuit is "likewise young" for the states.

If you lot like information technology, clothing it!

I clothes mood-accordingly.

I clothes to convey a message about who I am.

I dress for myself.

Practice y'all follow trends? And if yes, which trends excite you at the moment?

I don't listen albeit to getting excited well-nigh the new seasons trends! I dear the glossy magazines. I enjoy pouring over the exquisite images.

My budget does not stretch to designer pieces but I can still adore and enjoy them. The fact that some of the shops have their own versions of the trends (pretty quickly) makes me very happy.

Things that are exciting me at the moment are:

  • The large Mesh-similar lace overlay dresses, tops and skirts (like those at Simone Rocha and Sportmax). They are structural, merely beautifully feminine.
  • Cold-shoulder tops and dresses. Shoulders are very sexy (without looking trashy) and inappreciably historic period at all!
  • Chanel's "run into-through" chunky shoes… ridiculous but I honey them!
  • Dungarees.
  • Bag charms.
  • Pastel coloured watches.
  • and clashing brilliant hues.

I besides savour post-obit makeup trends.

Wearing the existent-life version of what is new (specially eyeliner and eyeshadow) is lots of fun….Oh, and nails as well! (I am wearing matte lilac nail smoothen as I type this)

Practise y'all take whatever fashion and style tips for women over 40?

  • My principal piece of communication would be to believe in yourself and your own way choices. None of the states are perfect (far from it) simply we are all beautiful in our ain unique ways. Even the models don't look like the images in the magazines, nobody does!
  • Don't compare yourself to other people. Focus on what yous accept and exist thankful for it.
  • Don't worry about (or effort to second guess) what other people might remember of y'all. Y'all will neglect. And, to be honest, it does non affair anyway.
  • If you like something and so wear it.
  • Conviction is your best accessory.
  • Believe yous are beautiful, and you will be!
